African Primates Query #4

Nov 04, 2009 - 20:47 - Tanya Dewey

Query used in Pamela Rasmussen's Michigan State University summer study course in Uganda, 2008 (Zoology 490, Overseas Study in Zoology, upper division students). This query asks students to consider "Is there a taxonomic bias in which African primates are nocturnal or diurnal? Is there a taxonomic bias to diet? Degree of sociality? Might this help explain why diurnal African primates have largely not expanded into non-folivorous or frugivorous niches?"

This query is appropriate for upper division evolution, zoology, mammalogy, or primatology courses. Or it can be modified to be used in other advanced zoology, evolution, or taxon-specific courses.
