Malagasy Primates Query #4

Nov 04, 2009 - 20:49 - Tanya Dewey

Query used in Pamela Rasmussen's Michigan State University summer studies course in Madagascar, 2008 (Zoology 490, Overseas Study in Zoology, upper division students). This query has students consider "Is there a taxonomic bias in which Malagasy primates are nocturnal or diurnal? Is there a taxonomic bias to diet? Degree of sociality? Might this help explain why diurnal Malagasy primates have largely not expanded into non-folivorous or frugivorous niches?"

This query is appropriate for upper division evolution, zoology, mammalogy, or primatology courses. Or it can be modified to be used in other advanced zoology, evolution, or taxon-specific courses.
